Healthcare
He who has health has hope; and he who has hope has everything" – Arabic proverb India has made rapid strides in the health sector since independence. However, various eye opening data from SBS clearly indicate that access to healthcare still remains a challenge. While the health statistics of rural India continue to be poor, the health status and access to health for the poor in urban slum dwellers has surfaced to be equally deplorable and have less than 4% of government primary healthcare facilities. Urban slum dwellers suffer from adverse health conditions owing to mainly two reasons –first the lack of education and thus lack of awareness; and second the unwillingness to lose a day’s wage in order to reach the nearest medical facility. Healthcare for underprivileged, which is a desperate need, thus remains unaddressed. The need of the hour is thus a two pronged approach – first to bring quality healthcare services to doorsteps of the needy and second to promote healthcare awareness and contemporary healthcare seeking behavior among the underprivileged. In such a scenario a mobile healthcare services delivery system is the most practical mechanism. And in subscription to this view, Swadeshi Movement Foundation has initiated the Smile on Wheels programme. This is a unique mobile hospital programme that seeks to address problems of mobility, accessibility and availability of primary healthcare with a special focus on children and women, in urban slums and remote rural areas.

Health and Hygiene
It is universally acclaimed that no human being can survive and prosper unless one takes recourse to hygiene and nutrition in daily routine for a healthy life. The non-hygienic conditions prevailing in the backward slum clusters of our society are the root causes of deteriorating health. There are a number of factors that have to be reckoned with, including nutrition and sanitation. SHIVKRUPA BAHUUDDESHIYA SANSTHA was deeply concerned and had taken vigorous steps to curb them. Drainage system was improved in slums and backward colonies within the four walls of our territory and the adjoining areas in Delhi. Cleaning and sweeping of lanes was emphasized, the drinking water had to be kept covered so that mosquitoes do not breed. Delhi faces acute shortage of water and it had to be saved. It was advised to use and store water that was normally consumed every day and do not waste it. It was also advised to adopt rain-water harvesting.

Health Care Camp
Mega health camps are organized to deliver primary healthcare services as well as curative interventions such as detection and removal of cataract, distribution of aids and appliances to the disabled, as well as to treat anaemia, psychosomatic disorders, dermatological conditions, diabetes and general ailments. SHIVKRUPA BAHUUDDESHIYA SANSTHA’s follows a systematic approach to organize community-based general health awareness programmes. The main aim of these health awareness camps is to educate and motivate people to take responsibility of their own health and that of the community. We are inserted to start regular Dispensary, where we can provide free treatment, General checkup, OPD, minor surgery and tika-karan. In an effort to provide health care facilities to the people a full-fledged regular dispensary is being run. A general physician attends the dispensary on weekdays. Medicines are also provided to the patients free of cost, In addition to this, community based activities like regular immunization drive for children are also undertaken. Nutrition camps are also organized for women.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme
During the year under repot tan awareness generation camps on HIV/AIDS were organized in village of East Delhi to aware the people about precautionary measures to check the HIV/AIDS effects. More than 1000 people both man and woman participated in these camps. Health’s checkup arrangements were also done in these camps. "It is estimated that by the end of 20th century there were 40 million people infected with HIV all over the world and India has been leading with highest number of cases (ranging from 10-20 million). We may not be infected but will definitely be affected indirectly by it. Hence it is a duty of every citizen of India to have detailed knowledge about this disease”. Due to lack of knowledge about AIDS people have fear in their mind against the victims of this disease. Because of fear of social boycott, AIDS patients and their relatives hide their HIV status. Many doctors (due to fear of getting infection) also refuse to treat these patients. There is danger of AIDS for everybody and only thing that can save us is to be completely informed.
