Women Empowerment
Education and Health for Women's Empowerment
Various studies, as well as our experience, have shown that when we work towards women empowerment, the whole society benefits. But unfortunately in India, far from empowering women, most are denied even their basic rights like health, education of girls for women empowerment, employment and a respectable status in society. According to a recent UNDP Human Development Report, India has a dangerously imbalanced sex ratio, the chief reason being rampant female infanticide and sex-selective abortions. Shivkrupa Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha, meaning self-respect in English, was initiated in 2019 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. The programme is specifically aimed at realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength for marginalised and socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community practices.

Vocational Training to Women's
The organization believes in giving utmost importance to Programmers’ related to women empowerment. Thus in this direction it helps women organize self-help groups and fight the battle against poverty and illiteracy. We believe that to make any welfare or development program a success it is vital that it addresses the real problems of the people at the community level. Systematic efforts have to be made for reducing the economic divide between the rich and the poor. One of the effective ways to achieve results is to enable unemployed and underemployed youth – especially those coming from economically poor and socially marginalized background – to be engaged in gainful occupation. During the year we concentrated on giving training in tailoring and outfitting to women from weaker and poor families living in slum areas and resettlement colonies. Through these income-generating skills they were able to add extra income to their families’ meager income. That also gave them the confidence and the satisfaction of being financially independent. The extra income also gave them the opportunity to educate their children and save some money for their daughters’ marriage.

Empowering Girls Through Education
SHIVKRUPA BAHUUDDESHIYA SANSTHA’s designed the Lakshyavati program to improve educational attainment and reduce school dropout rates amongst girls between Grades VII and XII. Girls belonging to low-income families suffer the risk of having their education de-prioritized when they reach middle school, often leading to early marriages for most of them. To address and arrest this reality, SMF along with its partner runs a scholarship program to provide a fixed monthly bursary, which is transferred directly to the bank accounts of over 65 girls across Wani Yavatmal, Maharashtra. All the 65 girls have continued their education, and SMF hopes to see a reduction in dropouts during the third and final years of the program.
